About
In the 1930’s, Silver Lake was “the ol’ swimming hole” for the
boys of the nearby Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) Camp. At that
time, there was one house on this beautiful, spring fed,
forty-acre lake. The lake could only be accessed by a hilly and
twisting gravel road going west from Hazelhurst.
While staying with family during the summer in the late 1930’s, a
young girl from Milwaukee discovered the old CCC swimming hole and
fell in love with Silver Lake. Her description of the pristine
lake was so compelling that her father made the trip to Hazelhurst
to see Silver Lake for himself. He, too, was captivated by the
lake and made the decision to purchase as much of the lake
frontage there that he could afford. Eventually, this depot agent
for the Railway Express Agency sought a transfer from Milwaukee to
the Minocqua-area and built his home. Today, George Falkner’s two
daughters still have residences on the lake, including Carroll
Jean, who discovered Silver Lake as a young child.
Carroll Jean went on to raise her family on the shores of Silver
Lake. Fulfilling a lifelong dream, her son, Dave, has now built
“Silver Lake Lodge” on a corner of the very property originally
purchased by his grandfather. Dave and his wife, June, are now
able to share the Silver Lake tradition with their two daughters,
Jennifer and Stephanie. . . and the entire Anderson family is
pleased to share with you the legacy associated with this
beautiful jewel among the myriad of lakes that make up the
“Lakeland” area of northern Wisconsin.
